Een goede medische dienstverlening waarbij de belangen van patiënten centraal staan, daar zouden goede deontologische regels mee voor moeten zorgen. Maar een goede deontologische code, wat is dat nu? Net dat is de focus van dit boek. De vraag wordt gesteld of een beroepscodificatie van deontologische regels wel voldoende garanties biedt op goede gezondheidszorgen. Dit boek bespreekt de belangrijkste innovaties van de wet van 22 april 2019 inzake de kwaliteitsvolle praktijkvoering in de gezondheidszorg, of nog 'de Kwaliteitswet'. Deze nieuwe wetgeving verzekert dat de patiënt overal, of het nu in een ziekenhuis is of in een privépraktijk, op zorg van de hoogst mogelijke kwaliteit kan rekenen. Healthcare is changing. It is moving to a paperless environment and becoming a team-based, interdisciplinary and patient-centred profession. Modern healthcare models reflect our data-driven economy, and adopt value-driven strategies, evidence-based medicine, new technology, decision support and automated decision-making. Amidst these changes are the patients, and their right to data protection, privacy and autonomy. The question arises of how to match phenomena that characterise the predominant ethos in modern healthcare systems, such as e-health and personalised medicine, to patient autonomy and data protection laws. That matching exercise is essential. The successful adoption of ICT in healthcare depends, at least partly, on how the public's concerns about data protection and confidentiality are addressed. Three backbone principles of European data protection law are considered to be bottlenecks for the implementation of modern healthcare systems: informed consent, anonymisation and purpose limitation. Zoals in de meeste andere ontwikkelde landen zijn de forensische wetenschappen ook in België aan de orde van de dag. Geavanceerde criminalistiek en forensisch bewijs zijn dan ook onontbeerlijk geworden in de strijd tegen de moderne criminaliteit. Het is dan ook enigszins verwonderlijk dat het forensisch bewijs als zodanig in België nog niet echt het voorwerp uitmaakt van veel juridische reflectie.00In deze monografie wordt nader ingegaan op het ontstaan van de forensische activiteit in België alsook op de huidige organisatie ervan: welke instanties houden zich bezig met forensische opsporing en forensisch onderzoek, en wat precies is de taak van het Nationaal Instituut voor Criminalistiek en Criminologie (NICC) en van de laboratoria voor technische en wetenschappelijke politie (LTWP)?
